  Unit 5. Listen and Type The fourth question type on the Duolingo English Test is called Listen and Type . This is a dictation-style question designed to assess how accurately you can understand spoken English and transcribe it into written English. In this task, you will hear a speaker read one sentence , and your job is to type exactly what you hear . You can expect 6 to 9 Listen and Type questions on the exam. You have 60 seconds to complete each sentence, and you may listen to the recording u p to three times —the original playback plus two additional replays . Like many of the earlier question types, Listen and Type is adaptive . As you continue answering correctly, the sentences become progressively longer, faster, and more linguistically complex. A beginner-level sentence might be as simple as, "This is a cat."
