This site is ideated, produced and maintained by Dr. Nanhee Byrnes. Dr. Byrnes received her Ph.D. degree from the University of California, San Diego, in philosophy. Her dissertation is entitled "The Best Results Argument for Democracy." 

Dr. Nanhee Byrnes's Unconventional Academic Journey

After earning her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Korea University in Seoul, Korea, Dr. Byrnes even started her Ph.D. studies there. But her academic adventure was just beginning!

She then packed her bags for the U.S. to pursue an American Ph.D., initially enrolling in a graduate program at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, which is where she met her future husband. Talk about a life-changing enrollment!

From there, she transferred to the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, reaching the ABD (All But Dissertation) stage. However, life had other plans, and she bravely paused her academic pursuits for a decade to raise her family. This period saw her living first in Silicon Valley and then in San Diego, following her husband's job.

But you can't keep a good scholar down! She eventually returned to her studies, finally earning her Ph.D. degree from the University of California, San Diego.
